Live United by Giving
Supporting United Way is an investment in your community. That investment, multiplied by others who give to the United Way, has the power to bring about real changes in community conditions. Many people give by participating in their United Way workplace giving campaign. Others, who don't have a campaign at their company, give directly to the United Way in their community.

Campaign Kick-Off Luncheon 2010 Sponsored By ConocoPhillips
![]()
On Thursday, September 9, 2010, over 80 United Way of Mat-Su VIP’s came together to share lunch and Kick-Off the 2010 Campaign. Our event was graciously sponsored by ConocoPhillips.
A series of presentations filled the lunch hour. Nikki Lee, United Way of Mat-Su Board President-Elect welcomed our guests and thanked ConocoPhillips for their event sponsorship and BP for their co-sponsorship of the campaign video. She introduced the United Way of Mat-Su Board of Directors and staff. We heard from Mary Gibbs, Director of Philanthropy and Community Services for Conoco and Karen Cowart from BP’s Philanthropy group. At intervals throughout the event, John Simon, Mat-Su School District Elementary School Counselor, presented dramatic informative vignettes representing each of the 2010/11 funded programs. Desiree Compton, Community Impact Director shared information about United Way’s Community Impact and the Mat-Su Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. Aryne Randall and Stephanie Garrard of Wells Fargo presented a $1000 check to United Way of Mat-Su and challenged the attendees to do the same. Alaska Railroad donated two tickets from Anchorage to Seward, which were raffled off and won by our former Dorothy A Jones Volunteer of the year, Mr. Karl Lund. Congratulations Mr. Lund and thank you Alaska Railroad.
Cherie LeBlanc-Shue, United Way of Mat-Su Resource Development Director, thanked ConocoPhillips, BP and the community of agencies and donors for their support and efforts to change the Mat-Su Valley in positive ways before she introduced this year’s video. The video was created and produced by John Conn of Stage 2, who joined the United Way Board of Directors in 2009. The premiere viewing of the 2010 campaign video, “What is United Way of Mat-Su?” co-sponsored by BP and Stage 2 Studios was a huge success. You can view the video on our website www.unitedwaymatsu.org.
The luncheon was a great start to what we hope will be another wonderful campaign. In 2009 with the economy still lagging we were concerned about the campaign. We should have known our community would come together in a time of greater need and we raised significant money and logged many volunteer hours. THANK YOU! We need your help again this year, so please contact us if you are not having a workplace campaign and would like to have one or donate – Tel: 907 373-5802 or cherie@unitedwaymatsu.org.
ConocoPhillips awards $10,000 Challenge Grant to United Way of Mat-Su
Through the generous donations of community members United Way of Mat-Su was able to raise the $10,000 in new or increased leadership giving required for the Challenge Grant. With difficult economic times faced by corporations and community members alike we are delighted to have received so much support.
ConocoPhillips plays a vital role in funding so many services and programs in our community. We truly thank them!
