Day of Action: Stuff the Bus

We want to ensure that all Mat-Su Borough students look and feel their best for the first day of school! School readiness is a key component of our mission: when all students are adequately prepared for school, they learn, socialize and meet benchmarks for education better. Annually, United Way of Mat-Su distributes over 1,000 backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to Valley kids and youth.

We Envision A Community Wherein All Students Are Equally Able To Learn.

Day of Action: Stuff the Bus allows Mat-Su Valley students to access services necessary for them to attend the first day of school. Students are invited to choose a new backpack, then fill it with school supplies from their list. Often, a gently-used outfit, jacket and pair of shoes is available, giving them everything they need to feel confident when they enter their classrooms.

This event is free of charge for Mat-Su students, and registration is not required! In 2018, UWMS and our community partners supplied backpacks, supplies and services for over 1,200 students.
